Our Sustainable Practices

As responsible members of our community, green sustainable design and building practices are an intrinsic part of our mission.  We strive to implement green building techniques into all phases of our construction projects.  Here are examples of how we implement sustainable practices into our work.

Conserve Natural Resources

  • Use salvaged, recycled and FSC certified wood.  For the Tree House new construction project we used an extensive amount of salvaged redwood for the woodworking details throughout the interior and exterior of the home.
  • Reduce water consumption with low flow fixtures, dual flush toilets, water catchment systems and gray water systems (where permitted).
  • Use rapidly renewable materials such as bamboo flooring and cabinetry.  In the Pleasure Point Addition & Remodel, we used rapidly renewable bamboo flooring and Vetrazzo recycled glass countertops.
  • Use less wood in the framing of your home (advanced framing techniques, FSC wood) or research alternate construction methods - hay bale, rastra, ICFs, etc.
  • Demolition - we re-purpose materials when possible and then recycle everything possible during the demolition process.

Reduce Energy Consumption

  • Passive solar design - orienting the home in a manner that best captures the natural heat and cooling.
  • High efficiency heating and cooling systems - we specify the most efficient HVAC systems available.
  • Insulation - we utilize superior insulation practices in all of jobs, including spray foam insulation and blown cellulose.
  • Dual pane windows
  • Sealing leaky areas

Indoor Air Quality

  • Use materials that have low or no VOCs and toxic materials - we specify no VOC paint, formaldehyde free cabinetry, wool carpets, and a wide variety of materials that are less toxic for the air quality of our homeowners.

Create & Support Liveable Communities

  • Support local vendors, products and materials whenever possible
